The Center for Addiction Sciences and Therapeutics (CAST) emphasizes the value of community service as a chief means to share research advances, particularly engaging vulnerable populations that will one day benefit from their scholastic labors.
We instill the value and social responsibility of civil engagement and community service in CAST, championing service to the most ostracized members of our community and teaching inclusion of all members of our society.
CAST hosts/co-hosts and/or participates in numerous community events throughout our five-county area (Galveston, Harris, Brazoria, Matagorda, and Liberty).
Most recently, CAST was instrumental in responding to the emergency opioid crisis and provided education to the community on fentanyl overdose and Narcan XX. We also partnered with community organizations to provide science-based education on addiction and how we can best help combat the opioid epidemic.
Partnerships
CAST partners with many community organizations to educate the public on the science of addiction, share research advances, and champion service for individuals with addiction and mental health disorders.
