The Center for Addiction Sciences and Therapeutics (CAST) is committed to providing the highest-quality education and training in addiction sciences and we strive to recruit the best and brightest mentees.
CAST provides an ideal environment for the training of postdoctoral fellows and graduate students to ensure that they are well-equipped to pursue careers in addiction and mental health research. All trainees are mentored in research and grant writing and actively contribute to workgroups and seminars to ensure that they are involved in all collaboration and communication. UTMB has a postdoctoral certificate program to formalize our commitment to postdoctoral development. Postdocs are mentored in transition to independent researchers. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of suitable laboratory, writing, public speaking, ethical, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
CAST hosts and co-hosts several seminars throughout the year, advertised campus-wide, to provide education on research advances in substance use and mental health disorders. Nationally renowned experts are invited to present and meet with CAST faculty, students, and fellows, as well as other departments as applicable. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows also have an opportunity to present results from their research projects.
