Current Priorities

The Center for Addiction Sciences and Therapeutics (CAST) is catalyzing the research needed to transform the way we perceive and address the myriad of biological, psychological, and sociological issues that comprise brain challenges. Our portfolio of research advances and NIH/industry funding, intellectual property stance, and community prevention efforts continue to grow.

Research Areas

Mechanisms, Drug Discovery, and Medications Development
Examine mechanisms underlying neuroplasticity and identifies target molecules to correct the imbalance underlying neuropsychiatric disorders.
Neurosciences-Infectious Disease (NeuroID)/COVID-19
Assess the impact of SARs-CoV2 on brain health and mechanisms to improve function.
Prescription Opioid Tapering
Investigate neurochemical and neurophysiological mechanisms of transcutaneous auricular neurostimulation (tAN) to optimize treatment of pain.
Biobehavioral Markers of Substance Use Disorders
Assess environmental, psychosocial, and pain-related aspects of comorbid chronic pain and opioid use disorder using machine learning.
Behavioral Health
Explore the etiology, prevention, diagnosis and/or treatment of addictions, neuropsychiatric and mental health disorders.
