The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
UTMB developed an application for the first round of grants that students completed between April 15, 2020 and April 21, 2020. The verified FAFSA was used to confirm that recipients met the eligibility requirements of the CARES Act. A committee consisting of one representative from each of the four schools and four representatives from Enrollment Services will review the applications and amounts requested to determine which students meet the criteria prescribed by the US Department of Education. The maximum that could be awarded per student is $2500.00.
UTMB developed a new application for the second round of grants that students completed between July 13,2020 and July 26,2020. This new application was based on the clarification of eligible expenses from the Department of Education. The verified FAFSA was used to confirm that recipients met the eligibility requirements of the CARES Act. A committee consisting of one representative from each of the four schools and four representatives from Enrollment Services will review the applications and amounts requested to determine which students meet the criteria prescribed by the US Department of Education. The maximum that could be awarded per student is $2500.00. Students who were enrolled prior to summer 2020 were given priority consideration. The remaining funds were awarded to the students who entered during summer 2020.
