Change in Student Status
All financial aid awarded at UTMB will be based on an assumption that all eligible students are enrolled at least half time. If the student drops hours and becomes enrolled for less than half time, the student must complete an exit interview through Enrollment Services.
When a student is officially withdrawn from the University, the University must determine whether the student owes repayment of Title IV funds. Title IV funds include FDSL, FDUSL, FPLP, PELL, and FSEOG. Upon notification that a student has withdrawn, Enrollment Services will calculate the percentage of Title IV aid earned and received, using the formula mandated by the Department of Education. This could result in a student and/or the University having to repay nothing or having to repay a portion of Title IV funds already received.
If tuition was paid from Title IV funds, and the payment was reversed due to this policy, the student may be liable for a tuition payment to UTMB. If tuition was not paid from Title IV funds and the University was required to make a payback, the student would be responsible to repay Enrollment Services.
The amount owed by the student is repaid to the lender in accordance with the promissory note of the loan. The institutional portion must be reimbursed to UTMB by the student before the holds on student’s record are released.
