Required Coursework
Policy: Financial Aid for Coursework not Part of Required Curriculum
Financial aid funding is available only for coursework that is a required part of the student’s curriculum. Students in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Health Professions, and School of Nursing cannot add courses to their schedule that are not required in their degree plan in order to establish half-time enrollment status for financial aid.
Since students in the School of Medicine (SOM) are required to pay four full years of tuition as part of their degree requirements, they can enroll in additional elective courses during those four years and continue to receive funding. However, if an SOM student takes longer than 4 years to complete their required coursework, no additional courses beyond those required for their degree will be funded with financial aid. SOM students who have completed all coursework, but have not passed the USMLE are not eligible for financial aid.
