Verification Policy
Verification is a process that all universities participating in federal aid programs have to complete. If you are selected by the Dept of Education you must complete verification process in order to qualify for financial aid. Verification requires that
UTMB confirm the accuracy of the information you provided on your FAFSA. You will have a checklist item posted on your Mystar to-do list requesting additional documents. Using these documents, we compare your data to the information on your FAFSA,
and you may be required to corrections, if needed.
VERIFICATION PROCESS
FAFSA/RENEWAL FAFSA: Make sure all tax documents have been completed prior to filing.
The use of the IRS Data Retrieval Tool is required to ensure the accuracy of tax reporting information. If you or your parents have not already used the tool, go to https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa log in to the student’s FAFSA record, select “Make FAFSA Corrections,” and navigate to the Financial Information section of the form.
From there, follow the instructions to determine if the you are eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer the income tax information into your FAFSA.
