The ITS-supported TL1 Training Program engages trainees and scholars in a curriculum specifically designed to develop key inter-professional multidisciplinary team-based translational science competencies.
The NIH National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) defines translation as the process of turning observations in the laboratory, clinic and community into interventions that improve the health of individuals and the public — from diagnostics and therapeutics to medical procedures and behavioral changes. Because of the complexity of the translational research pipeline, multidisciplinary team science is recognized as an essential vehicle for the efficient advancement of translational research to produce meaningful health outcomes. To effectively engage in team science, translational scientists not only need strong discipline-specific knowledge and technical expertise, but also must be knowledgeable about essential skills and competencies for team-based translational science.
Three postdoctoral and three pre-doctoral positions are supported with the TL1 component of the CTSA grant. These are 1-year appointments, with an opportunity for a 1-year renewal.
Additionally, we support 10 two-month-long summer short-term appointments for School of Medicine students each year.
Eligibility: All nominees (trainees) must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of appointment. Faculty mentors who are not currently affiliated with this TL1 Training Program must be approved and added as a Training Program Faculty Mentor. A clinical co-mentor is required for all trainees and scholars.
