We are an academic division committed to excellence in patient care, education, and research. Our faculty includes a mix of physician-scientists, physician-educators and Ph.D. scientists.  Our clinical faculty are all well-trained and board certified in Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Our mission is to:

• Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations for problems pertaining to infectious diseases of children
• Coordinate special high emphasis clinical programs in pediatric infectious diseases
• Train medical students, pediatric residents, and pediatric infectious disease fellows
• Conduct basic and clinical research related to pediatric infections
• Contribute to the hospital antimicrobial stewardship and infection control programs

 We treat all children from birth (including premature infants) to 18 years of age. Pregnant women with HIV infection are also seen as part of the Maternal-Child HIV Program. In the Adult & Child Travel Clinic, patients traveling abroad are seen for preventive vaccines and medications.

 CLINICAL SERVICES

The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Clinic offers outpatient consultation for children and adolescents with suspected or confirmed infectious diseases conditions, including tuberculosis, recurrent skin infections and children with fever without an apparent source. We provide continued outpatient management for those patients who were hospitalized with bone/joint infections, complex pneumonias, central nervous system infections, intra-abdominal abscesses, and more. The clinic offers care for those children with congenital or perinatally acquired infections such as HIV, syphilis, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus and hepatitis C virus. Our Perinatal HIV Clinic provides medical, psychosocial, and case management services to HIV-infected infants, children, adolescents, and pregnant women. Our Travel Clinic provides pre- and post-travel consultation for children and their families- the clinic offers country-specific counseling, and prophylactic vaccinations and medications.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PATIENT REFERRALS

• The patient must be referred to by a physician or community agency
• The patients must obtain authorization from their insurance plans
