A message from the President:

  • Dr. Reiser’s Welcome to the New Academic Year

    To the UTMB Community,

Every time I walk across our campus, I am reminded of what a privilege it is to be part of this extraordinary place. UTMB is more than a university. It is a home for discovery, a haven for learning, and a beacon of healing and service. For me, learning, teaching, caring for patients, and leading within this community have been among the greatest joys of my life.

That joy has been especially alive as we begin a new academic year. I felt it during orientation and move-in, as families and students arrived filled with excitement, pride, and possibility. I saw it in our faculty and staff, who welcomed them with energy and compassion. And I see it now, as classrooms, labs, and clinics come alive with new voices, fresh ideas, and bold dreams.

The rhythm of our university never slows. Even in summer, UTMB hums with progress. New students are preparing for their journeys, researchers are driving discoveries, and health care teams are transforming lives. Now, as the pace accelerates into the fall, that momentum surges. It is renewal. It is purpose. It is the spirit of UTMB.

In the year ahead, our students will unlock new passions, forge lifelong friendships, and prepare to shape the future of medicine and society. Our faculty will continue to push the boundaries of science and care, advancing knowledge at a pace unlike any other time in history. Our alumni will carry UTMB’s spirit into communities near and far, bringing healing, hope, and leadership wherever they go. Together, we are a force for good that touches countless lives.

Yes, higher education and academic medicine face challenges. Yet UTMB has always thrived through challenge. We listen. We adapt. We rise. With our mission, our people, and our purpose, we will not only endure but also lead boldly into the future.

As we step into this new year, I encourage you to hold onto the joy that brought you here, the joy of discovery, of service, of making lives better. That joy is our strength, our culture, and our promise to the world.

Welcome to a new year at UTMB. The future we are building together is brighter than ever.
