Biography
Brian K. Walsh, PhD, RRT, RRT-NPS, RRT-ACCS, RPFT, FAARC is a Professor (Tenured), Interim Chair and the Degree Advancement MSRT Program Director in the Department of Respiratory Therapy in the School of Health Professions. He received a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Old Dominion University, a Master of Business Administration from Liberty University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Health Sciences (Respiratory Therapy) from Rush University.
Dr. Walsh began his health career in emergency medical services and respiratory therapy and quickly developed an interest and passion for research and education. Dr. Walsh’s research career began by focusing on areas within respiratory therapy lacking evidence to guide practice. This pursuit and passion led to several discoveries within each of those areas and the development of several nationally recognized clinical practice guidelines.
Before coming to UTMB, Dr. Walsh was a clinical director of large Children’s Hospitals in Colorado and Texas, the founding Director of the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy Program in Virginia, President of the American Association for Respiratory Care, Assistant Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School, and Research Coordinator at Boston Children’s Hospital.
