Biography
Amber Asghar, DCLS, MHA, MLS (ASCP)cm is an Assistant Professor of Instruction and Director of Clinical Education DCLS program in the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Department of Clinical Laboratory Science in the School of Health Professions.
Dr. Asghar received a Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB).
She is currently working as an instructor teaching both graduate and doctoral CLS students in on-campus and online courses.
Besides being in Academia, Dr. Asghar has 20 years of experience as a medical laboratory scientist. She has played an important role (Supervisor/Managerial) in the laboratory, leading the Microbiology department at the Harris Health System & Texas
Children’s Hospital here in Houston. She has also played an important role as a bench technologist in Microbiology department at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston). As a member of the Microbiology division for 20 years, she has done
tremendous amounts of work and continuously improves workflow with her leadership skills. Dr. Asghar is passionate about her work and considers patients and their wellbeing to be her #1 priority.
Dr. Asghar is most passionate about teaching and research; her research interests primarily focus on the education of future CLS and other health professionals, microbiology, virology, immunology, serology, hematopathology, toxicology and more; specifically
topics related to pandemic, global health, diagnostic management teams, and evidence-based laboratory medicine.
