Gynecology and Women's Health

A woman’s health needs change throughout her life in important ways. The gynecologists, urogynecologists and breast health experts throughout the UTMB network understand these changing needs and partner with you to keep you as healthy as possible.

We put an emphasis on preventive care to ensure you catch any problems early. Many of the health concerns women face are easily diagnosed and treatable. Some of the common conditions our OB/GYNs treat include infections, menstrual discomfort, urinary incontinence and gynecological disorders such as endometriosis. If you need treatment, we work with you to determine the most effective course of action. We also provide surgical treatments, including minimally invasive procedures such as robotic hysterectomy and uterine fibroid removal.

Adolescent Gynecology

Adolescence is a time of many changes. As girls grow into young women and become physically and sexually mature, they need additional care from specialists in Adolescent Gynecology who are trained to address these issues.

Many gynecological and menstrual conditions affect adolescent females and require the clinical care of a physician or other health care provider. In addition to providing initial or routine gynecologic care, we provide care for adolescents with a variety of gynecologic problems, including:

  • Menstrual irregularities
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Missed periods
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Delayed first period
  • Pelvic pain
  • Vaginal and pelvic infections
  • Uneven breast growth
  • Breast lumps
  • Vaginal discharge

Advanced Gynecologic Surgery

For women with a gynecologic condition, the decision to have surgery can be difficult. A woman’s busy life does not leave much time to recover from a significant surgical procedure.

At UTMB Health, our physicians are skilled in caring for women with co-existing medical conditions, a history of prior surgery or a history of congenital malformations of the reproductive organs. Using advanced techniques, our surgeons can diagnose or treat patients, and remove or repair a part of the body, without performing a major incision during surgery. The addition of robotics to laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery is a progressive innovation, transforming the practice of gynecologic surgery.

Less Invasive Surgery, Quicker Recovery

We’re using new techniques in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery and, in turn, shortening recovery times, reducing pain and blood loss and letting women get back to their lives in record time.

Robotic and minimally invasive surgery can be used to treat:

  • Bladder and pelvic floor disorders
  • Cervical cancer
  • Uterine cancer
  • Endometriosis
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Infertility
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Pelvic pain
  • Uterine fibroids
