We provide comprehensive care for infants, children, and adolescents with cancer and blood disorders. We work with a team of nurses, surgeons, intensivists, radiation oncologists, child life staff, patient advocates, nutritionists, and other allied health personnel to provide your child with the finest evaluation and management of hematologic and malignant disorders of infancy and childhood.

Major diagnoses include:

  • leukemias,
  • lymphomas,
  • brain tumors,
  • solid tumors,
  • bone marrow failure syndromes,
  • anemias,
  • bleeding and clotting disorders,
  • in addition to supportive care services such as transfusions.

Chemotherapy and transfusions are provided to our patients using specialized intravascular access devices/ports in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

We care for children at our family-centered, multidisciplinary clinics in League City and Galveston. If your child requires inpatient care, John Sealy Children's Hospital provides state-of-the-art multidisciplinary clinical care and the emotional support that is essential during the treatment of such complex medical conditions. We provide 24/7 on-call faculty support; patients requiring after-hours care can be seen at our Clear Lake and the League City Campus 24-hour Emergency Room or our Galveston Level I Trauma Center.

    Dr. Rupp is the Medical Director for Island Pedi East. This location provides both Primary Care and Specialty Care services to children and youth from birth through 21 years of age.

    This clinic provides both Primary Care and Specialty Care services to children and youth from birth through 21 years of age. All services are provided in a family-centered setting with specialized education and support to optimize care and outcomes.
    This clinic is a state-of-the-art facility. Faculty and resident pediatricians are present in this location, providing care for infants and children from the newborn period through adolescence. As in our other locations (Island Pediatrics East and West), there are opportunities for families to participate in clinical studies, including those for vaccines.

    The UTMB Children’s Hospital in Galveston offers leading edge knowledge and over 120 years of experience in one of the finest academic settings in the nation. The fully redesigned hospital and child life program reflects an attention to all the details that matter to children, offering the whimsy and serenity of an ocean/island design along with many special spaces for toddlers, older children and teenagers to play, relax, unwind and spend time with family members. UTMB Health offers advanced general inpatient care for ill children, as well as specialty inpatient care for children with serious medical conditions. Our pediatric hospitalists, attending faculty physicians, nurses, residents, students and staff provide state-of-the-art clinical care and the emotional support that is essential during a hospital stay. Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) offers critical care services for infants, children and adolescents with severe illnesses or injuries. We can arrange emergency helicopter transport when needed to serve the most seriously ill children in our region.

    The UTMB Emergency Department is a Level I Trauma Center, certified by the American College of Surgeons.

    We're here to give you the treatment you need, when you need it. UTMB’s Emergency Department is staffed 24/7 by physicians and registered nurses who are specially trained and certified in emergency medicine.

    The Emergency Department (ED) houses a wide range of equipment and offers patients access to advanced technology, such as CT scans and other diagnostic imaging. It is the only Level I Trauma Center in the region that is also a Level I Burn Center. UTMB is certified by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center.
