Thoracic Outlet Syndrome happens when the nerves, arteries, or veins between your collarbone and first rib get squeezed. This pressure can cause pain, weakness, numbness, or swelling in your arms or hands. It can be caused by the way your body is built, doing the same motion over and over, or from an injury.
Symptoms:
- Ongoing or sharp pain down the arm
- Tingling or “pins and needles” feeling in the arm or hand
- Headaches, neck pain, or stiffness
- Weakness in the arm, especially in certain positions
- Muscle loss in the shoulder or hand
- Sudden swelling in the arm, often after activities like rowing or weightlifting
